Hey Lookit My Tooth

x-ray of my freshly root canalled tooth So this was my morning: root canal fun time!

I went over to Wikipedia’s article on root canals, hoping to find some kind of valuable scientific lesson to share with all you gentle readers, but no dice. Instead, I find myself mildly annoyed with the article for using “scientific” to mean “accurate, precise, or awesome”; my choices at this point are ranting, or making some more coffee and doing some nice math.

Enjoy the gratuitous radiograph. The bits of the tooth that I chew with, below the gumline, are on the very bottom of the image.

Hope our mouth resumes normal operation soon.

As someone who only just recently realized (after tossing back a handful of peanuts) that he no longer had any molars left to work with on the right bottom side of his mouth since his last dental visit, it’s really not just a figure of speech for me to say: I feel your pain [and I tried substituting caffeine and math for ranting meself once — I wound up doing all three (but then, maybe that’s just me…)]

I don’t really mind root canals - I take well to lidocaine and it’s just an hour or two of zoning out to the witty banter of the endodontist and assistant, followed by a mega-dose of ibuprofen.

It’s kind of silly that I’ve had to get four of ‘em on the same tooth, though.

    You’re lucky.

I developed a resistance to novocaine during grade and high school, so when my errant wisdom teeth sent me to the college dentist, he told me that such a resistance was impossible, and promptly cut the infected gum tissue out with just a normal jab.

On my walk home, I felt a slight tingle for about five minutes, but aside from that I could feel absolutely everything.

    Ow! Ow ow ow!

But, to keep things in perspective, at least you’re not this kid.
