I'm getting a Google ad to explore Washington's volcanic outdoors, so I can't be the only person to immediately leap from "volcano" to "hot springs"... but yes, it is probably a bit of an idiosyncrasy.

Kerrick, you're looking to invest in a hot tub? Have I shown you my backyard?

Is it so bizarre that the local tourism bureaus, chamber of commerce, freemasons, et al. downplay the volcanism? The average joe knows so little about earth science that when the Discovery Channel calls something a "supervolcano" it sticks. Best not to invite the connection when you want to sell condos.

What truly irks me about the Mammoth area is the visual nightmare when some ex-hippies decide to rip it all off and join you in a hot tub. Father time is usually not kind.

mmmmm, hydrothermals.

you know if my housemates would just let me invest in a hot tub for the media room, I wouldn't have to go risk my life for a warm floaty soak.
