Yay I’m Not Dead Yet

Happy birthday to me! In memely celebration, here are some other things that have happened on this lovely 29th of April (factoids via Wikipedia, memeage via Science Woman):

  • 1854 – Henri Poincaré
  • 1899 – Duke Ellington
  • 1901 – Emperor Hirohito

  • 1768 – Georg Brandt
  • 1951 – Ludwig Wittgenstein
  • 1980 – Alfred Hitchcock

  • 1762 – France invaded the Netherlands
  • 1970 – The US invaded Cambodia
  • 1992 – LAPD officers charged with beating Rodney King were acquitted; rioting ensued

It is also International Dance Day, woo woo.

Poincaré is pretty cool, but on this very particular 29 April it is also Queen’s Day in the Nederland, when gentlepersons of gender or otherwise shake their many regal booties in orange hotpants or something. (We’re not there this year, irritatingly, but next time we will be.)

Hmm. I’ve never looked all that well in orange, but it is also Greenery Day in Japan…

(I had no idea International Dance Day was a holiday. Yay for factoids.)
